Dry Fly, Nymph and Streamers for Native Trout

Tackle: What to Bring

Fly Rods: a 6 or 7 weight rod will do just fine.

Lines:We generally use Floating Lines but bring along a medium Sink-Tip (medium to fast sinking if you're coming on a River Trip).

Flies:Drys Caddis flies are most important in our area as they hatch all season long. Dry Deer Hair Caddis/Stonefly imitations are very productive in size 12 to 8. We like Stimulators! They're tough and they're great for skittering retrieves. Big Stimulators get and can take a lot of hits but many other patterns also work well: Parachute & CDC Patterns, Ants, Hoppers and Poppers. Our Trout just love feeding off the surface. Pack a few floating Nymphs too.
Bring a good selection of Nymphs and Wets; Size 14 to 8, representing Caddis, Mayfly, Scuds and Dragonflies.
Also Muddlers, Zonkers and other Streamers in sizes 10 to 6 (for River Trips up to size 2) in attractor as well as natural colours. Big, weighted Leeches (a Guide favourite) in Brown, Green, Peacock and Black. A bit of Red and Yellow is always good.
